Resilience. Perseverance. Determination. Commitment. Sacrifice. These words describe the main characters in the Ruth story. Ruth is a short story of about a Moabite woman and her Jewish mother-in-law. The story happens during the time of the Judges while Israel was in a repeating cycle of rebellion against God. Israel would sin. Next, God would send punishment. Then they would cry out to God in their misery and repent. Finally, God would deliver them. The downward cycle would repeat with Israel’s morality plunging deeper and deeper. During this grim season in Israel’s history, we read the story of help for two helpless women when God seems to be MIA. Do you feel like God is MIA in your life? If so, these women will remind you that God is the Helper of the helpless!
