Marshall Elementary School Partnership

WHAT IS A SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP?

San Diego Unified School District works with community organizations to set up partnerships to provide resources to neighborhood schools. The school partnership is a way for CABC to show Christ’s love to the community through providing practical help to people who need it.

WHY MARSHALL?

A few years ago, CABC’s Community Outreach Team set out to find a local elementary school for us to partner with.  Based on our three criteria, it seemed that God leading us to Marshall:

• The school had to be close to CABC. (Marshall is approx. 2 miles S/W of CABC at 3550 Altadena Ave.)
• The school had to have an economic and academic need. (100% of the students at Marshall qualify for free/reduced lunch. Many of the students are refugees from countries such as Burma.)
• The school had to want CABC as a community partner. (Marshall has welcomed CABC with open arms and continues to be receptive and appreciative of all the help we provide.)

Several schools in the area that fit the first two requirements were contacted, but Marshall was the most open to having CABC as a partner.

 

HOW CAN I HELP?

There are several ways to help. Here are a few:

• Prayer support:  People committed to pray for the students, families and staff on a regular basis.
• Tutors:  Volunteers to read with students during and after school.
• Hospitality:  People who like to put together gift baskets to the teachers, send cards of encouragement and prepare cookie trays for teacher appreciation day.
• Administrative:  People who are gifted at keeping track of paperwork, responding to email inquiries, etc.
