Welcome to Middle School

Middle School (6-8th grades) can be some of the most chaotic years of our lives. Some of the biggest emotional, physical, and spiritual changes can happen during these years. This ministry is devoted to creating a place for middle school students to come and be themselves while they are discovering who they truly are. Here at College Avenue Baptist Church we will intentionally reach these students with the love the Christ, connect them with other Christians, to help them grow in their faith and then challenge those growing to discover their ministry. Each activity we have is purposely design to fall under this mission.

Camps
In the winter and summer we offer camps. Winter camp happens at Forest Home Christian Conference Center and Summer Camp is at Thousand Pines. Both are located in the San Bernardino Mountains. Hiking, swimming, biking, zipline, challenge course and just hanging out are just some of the things that can be done there. These times have proven to be a great way to meet friends, build relationships with staff and can be used to challenge students in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

Summer Camp (connect & grow)

For the last couple of years we have been spending our camp experience at Thousand Pines Christian Camp in the San Bernardino Mountains. This is a great facility for the students to get away and experience God without the normal everyday distractions. Everyday this week they can experience amazing worship, fun and exiting recreation games and activities, and hear the Word of God and apply it to their lives.

Recreation, crowd breakers, videos and food are some of the elements that are used to accomplish as easy fit for these students. All of this points to a Gospel presentation that is given at every Edge. Evangelism is the main thrust for the evening, Relationship building takes place as students and staff play games and hang out together.
The first wednesday of every month is Hangin'@ the Edge. Come play video games, hang with friends and buy pizza & soda for $3.

*During the Summer, we meet at different times on Wednesdays for different activities. Please contact our office for a copy of our current ministry calendar.

Baja Outreach (discover, grow)

Mandatory meetings are:
May 12 @ Shadow Mountain 7pm -9pm
June 9 @ CABC 9am - 3pm
Send-off Meeting July 6 @ Shadow Mountain 7pm - 9pm

For the past several summers the middle school department has been making a week long trip to Ensendada, Mexico. This trip is designed for middle schoolers who desire a greater challenge. Student teams will be provided evangelistic opportunities as well as outreach contacts through networking with various local Christian ministries and Churches. Each student participates on a small ministry team as a part of the larger mission team. Ministry teams include, VBS/Art & Crafts, clowns, drama, puppets, sports, and construction. Each team uses a variety of creative methods to present the gospel of Jesus Christ. This ministry opportunity has expanded into also providing backpacks filled with school supplies and baby supplies for the kids and moms in the villages that we visit.

Our Volunteer Staff
Just like our students, our volunteer staff consists of a variety of different people. The ages of our staff range from college age students, to young married couples, to parents of our students. What they all have in common is a genuine love for God, a love for middle schoolers, and a desire to see Middle School students grow in their faith in Christ.

Service Projects
We are always looking for practical ways to show our students where they can live out their faith. Our intent is to expose students to a wide variety of opportunities of service and to encourage service as a lifestyle. Through service events, parent dinner (March), Baja Outreach (summer), Operation Christmas (December), etc... we attempt to provide environment in which students learn to love serving God and people.

Sunday Mornings EDGE AM (connect & grow)
For our Sunday Morning worship we meet in the Middle School Room (upstairs in the Family Center Building) at 10:30am-11:45am. These mornings are designed to create an atmosphere of excitements, fun, worship, and praise. After meeting together as a large group for worship and praise, we break into small groups where we equip the middle schoolers with the knowledge that Christianity is life the way God designed it to be found in scriptures.

Small Group Bible Studies
These Bible study groups meet at homes where students are given the opportunity to dig deeper into God's Word outside of our Sunday Mornings small groups. This intimate setting allows the students to share what is going on their lives and see how God's Word can apply to their lives.

GIRL/GUY (connect)
G.I.R.L. Growing in Real Life
This is a fun filled Girl-Only event that allows girls to do activities that encourage fellowship with each other and the women staff. This is a time for them to be themselves. Using God’s Word, we explore different topics that pertain to girls (self-image, relationships, friends, fashion…). This event provides a safe environment for girls to express themselves, their thoughts, and ideas along with having tons of fun.

G.U.Y. God Understands You
This is a time for Guys-Only. Video games, foosball, laser tag, airsoft, and bar-b-que are just a few of the things these events offer. Our staff men take turns sharing from God’s Word on issues that relation to middle school guys. The goal for these activities are to offer a safe and positive atmosphere in which our middle school guys can grow in their understanding of who they are and in their relationship with God.
